Mazda built 800 in Sunburst Yellow for the Roadster's second anniversary, pairing the vivid paint with a black cloth cabin, stainless-steel sill plates, 14-inch alloy wheels, and beautifully tactile Nardi wood for the steering wheel and shift knob, plus a matching wood handbrake grip.

Underneath was the familiar 120 PS 1.6-liter B6-ZE engine with a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic. Manual cars also received a viscous limited-slip differential. It was a simple formula, but exactly the right one: take the light, eager Roadster and make every glimpse of it feel like a sunny day.
