Mazda UK celebrated the 787B's historic 1991 Le Mans victory with an MX-5 as gloriously extroverted as the winning race car. Just 24 Le Mans Edition roadsters were built, each wearing a hand-painted orange-and-green Renown-inspired livery, a special body kit, OZ Racing wheels, and Tokico springs and dampers. Every car also came with a certificate of authenticity signed by winning driver Johnny Herbert.

BBR supplied the substance beneath the celebration. Its low-pressure turbo system lifted the 1.6-liter engine from 114 bhp to roughly 150 bhp and 154 lb-ft of torque, enough to transform the lightweight NA without losing its character. Some owners later repainted the famously bold bodywork, but in full colors this remains one of the wildest and most significant MX-5s Mazda ever put on the road.
