Ten years after the first green-and-tan NA, the 2001 Special Edition brought that quintessential roadster combination to the NB. Its British Racing Green paint, tan leather, beige top, and polished 16-inch wheels made the 3,000-car U.S. run feel both familiar and distinctly more grown-up.

Wood carried through the Nardi steering wheel, shift knob, handbrake grip, and dashboard trim, joined by white gauges with chrome rings, chrome interior handles, stainless-steel scuff plates, and unique keys. Every car paired the 142-hp variable-valve-timing 1.8-liter engine with a six-speed manual and Torsen limited-slip differential. Bose audio, power locks, remote keyless entry, and cruise control rounded out the LS-based specification.
