The 2005 Mazdaspeed carried the NB's turbocharged finale into a second year with the same 178-hp, 166-lb-ft punch. A strengthened six-speed manual, Bosch torque-sensing limited-slip differential, higher-rate springs, Bilstein dampers, larger stabilizer bars, lowered suspension, and ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution made it far more than an engine upgrade. Redesigned 17-by-7-inch Racing Hart wheels wore 205/40R17 Toyo Proxes R28 tires.

On Advanti Storm S1 wheels and Nitto NeoGens, with Meister R coilovers, a Flyin' Miata intake, Mishimoto radiator and FM fans, Fab9 intercooler, Goodwin downpipe, and Racing Beat RS4 midpipe. Also runs a five-speed swap from a 1994 car.
