Mazda celebrated the MX-5's first decade by turning the color blue into a complete design theme. The 1999 10th Anniversary Edition combined Sapphire Blue Mica paint with a matching soft top, blue carpet and trim, and blue suede-like seat centers framed by black leather. Polished 15-inch five-spoke wheels and a serialized driver-side fender emblem finished the look.

The anniversary model also introduced the MX-5's first six-speed manual offered outside Japan, paired with a 140-hp 1.8-liter engine, limited-slip differential, Bilstein dampers, and a front shock-tower brace. Bose audio and black-and-blue Nardi controls added polish, while owners received a serialized certificate, special ignition key, and commemorative gift set. Mazda built 7,500 worldwide: 500 for Japan, 3,150 for North America, 3,700 for Europe, and 150 for Australia.
